Aberdeen-based ITI Energy is moving ahead with plans to use seaweed as a potential source of fuel.
Work has begun on a new research and development programme in the area of seaweed anaerobic digestion.
The programme will take place in three phases over four years, and aims to develop the way seaweed is harvested to cut costs for the industry and provide a sustainable and locally sourced energy supply for Scotland's island communities.
ITI Energy has engaged the services of a variety of commercial and academic R&D providers to carry out the programme. with nearly £3.7 million being invested.
